Port Angeles Street Fair and Hurricane Ridge

Yesterday was the best day weather wise since we arrived in Sequim. We drove down to the city pier in Port Angeles for the "Arts in Action" festival. This festival began in 1965 and the main attraction is the American Masters Invitational sand sculpture contest. This event is the only North American master sand scuplture competition and is considered one of the major competitons for sand sculptors. The annual festival also features food vendors, live music,a car show and dozens of arts and crafts vendors.  Jack and I agreed that it was one of the best festivals we have attended.

After the festival we drove up into the Olympic National Park to Hurricane Ridge where the views out over the major Olympic peaks is spectacular on a clear day like this. Starting at Port Angeles, the seventeen-mile long Hurricane Ridge Road snakes up the side of the Olympic Mountains to 5,240 feet and a visitors center. The views are breathtaking (did I say that already?) and tame deer roam around the parking lot.
